"I took guitar lessons from Ed regularly for over 5 years, and I continue to take occasional lessons from him whenever I return to northern New Jersey. He is a fantastic teacher and an incredible guitarist.

Ed's approach to teaching is extremely practical and easy to follow. He has a unique ability to explain complicated things in a way that makes them sound simple. I did not fully appreciate this until I started talking to other musicians who would often lament how complex certain things were. I would always say "Oh, my guitar teacher just explained it like this..." and suddenly it would make sense.

Ed's approach to technique is also streamlined for maximum efficiency. His instruction is designed to make playing the guitar easy and fun, with fast results. Many of Ed's best lessons are things that other guitarists and guitar magazines describe poorly, even inaccurately. (Examples include: right hand muting, playing the modes with 3 notes per string, and Ed's unbelievably simple way of learning the notes of every fret on the guitar).

On top of everything, he is a patient teacher and a nice guy. He can play guitar like nobody's business. When I was a teenager, my lessons with Ed were often the high point of my week. Looking back, the education was invaluable." --- Ivan Anderson (Queens, NY)

Ed is a brilliant guitar teacher. I took lessons with Ed for a few years in High School, and I'm at a point in my life where I'm gigging frequently and hitting the studio often too, whether it be recording guitar for other bands or just for my own band. If you are going to be playing live gigs and want a teacher who will TRULY set you apart from other musicians, Ed is the teacher for you.

He is difficult (in a good way), I believe that when he sees potential in his students he can be tougher on them because he expects them to follow through with practice. Ed basically simplified jazz chords/scales to me in such a short period of time, and I was able to keep up with it (because I practiced!). Now I utilize this knowledge all the time with the music I write and play live/in studio. It's a very complicated system yet Ed had me playing very advanced jazz rhythms (inversions/split voicing etc) and understanding how to solo over them by the time I was 16 (24 now). I've never met anyone with such a deep understanding and passion for music who was capable of doing that, and I don't think I ever will. He will push you to your limit, and take you beyond that limit!

His teaching doesn't stop at guitar. I went on to utilize a lot of what I learned sitting down with Ed in my own full scale compositions, from orchestral to rock to jazz. I couldn't recommend anyone as highly as I would recommend Ed as a guitar teacher.

He is a true master of his craft, and he can help anyone become a master too in their own right with enough time and dedication. - Mike M.(New Jersey)

  2. I have been with Ed for 2 years now and it has been quite the adventure. In the 2 years i have progressed tremendously his program is like no other out there. It is completely custom designed to reach people of all ages and genres. I remember when i first started after being self taught and thinking what can he possibly teach me that i dont already know and then i walk in and hear him play and wow it was amazing I compare Ed to the great guitar players of all time. He also has come up with a system that is so genius theres really no way to describe it and Im serious when i say that no matter what level of guitar your at, his program will not only increase your strong areas but it will also make you see the guitar in a whole different light. If you want to take your playing to a professional level or if your an advanced player looking for a few tips and pointers then look no further, his approach to the guitar is so unique and so easy to understand just sitting through one lesson you know your in for an amazing journey through his guitar academy. Ed Furman is one of the elites and lucky for me he's my teacher. Thanks for the amazing experience Ed.

  3. I have to say that Ed Fuhrman is the Real Deal . I’ve been playing the electric guitar for 10 years and I’ve had previous guitar teachers before, but none of them compare to the knowledge and method to teach of Ed. If you are serious about playing the guitar and get very good at it, you have to take guitar lessons with him. I am his current student and I can say that you won’t be disappointed. 4. I have been studying with Ed for approximately three years. Hands down he is the best teacher I have ever had. He has a system of learning that covers everything from top to bottom in sequential order. I've had other instructors who have taught me isolated songs. The problem is, once you know a song, you know a song and that's all you know. There is no mobility. With Ed, you are taught how to fly on your own without having to know all sorts of technical mumbo jumbo. I would recommend Ed to anyone no matter what level they are starting from. He will take you from where you are to where you need to go.

Ed, if you are reading this I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me into the musician I am today. I strive... and put my soul into every note I write/play, and just hope that I am making you proud in some way by progressing in my music career little by little. You are truly an inspiration and I would love to get another lesson with you in the future, for old times sake!
